Stonewall Sports - Kansas City Has Suspended All Current and Upcoming Sport Leagues

Kansas City, MO (March 17, 2020) -- In accordance with federal, state, and local restrictions on public gatherings, the Kansas City chapter of Stonewall Sports has cancelled all remaining games for the dodgeball league and will suspend the upcoming spring kickball league indefinitely. Refunds will be issued to all registrants of the upcoming spring kickball league. All affiliated members are encouraged to follow the guidance of their local health officials to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

Stonewall Sports - Kansas City is committed to the health and safety of our members and the communities in which we live, work, and play. Our mission has been to create fun, safe, and inclusive spaces for queer and ally individuals to exist and build community. Never has that mission been more necessary than during these uncertain times. We remain committed to this mission and will seek opportunities to support those affected most in our community by this disease. While it may not be possible to build community shoulder to shoulder, we will make every effort to engage, celebrate, and support our family of LGBTQ+ Kansas Citians through this difficult time.

I know I speak for everyone on the leadership team when I say this was not an easy decision to make, however, it is the right one, said League Commissioner Jared Horman. We are deeply saddened that we will not be able to finish out the dodgeball season or launch our second season of kickball in the spring, but we remain steadfastly committed to doing our part to preserve the health and well-being of everyone in our community. We remain optimistic and look forward to a time where we can meet once again on the field for fun and friendship. Until then, and on behalf of the executive board, take care of yourself and one another.

Until we are able to meet again face to face, please follow the guidance of your local public health officials, practice good hygiene, and above all, be kind to one another. We will get through this together.
